Simple, smart, and spacious—the Heritage Washbag is a new design for my limited range. I’ll be producing only a handful of these in this Waxy Commander leather from Charles F Stead.
I’ve poured the same level of craftsmanship into this small but mighty piece as I do with all my designs. The Heritage Washbag is 100% leather - unlined, with fully leather-bound seams for durability and ease of care.
It features hand-dyed edges, logo-embossed details, and a bridle leather handle. The sturdy bridle leather base, shaped like a falconry lure, is a subtle nod to my leatherworking roots.
Forget fiddly compartments - this washbag is designed for simplicity, with one streamlined space for maximum functionality. Secure your valuables to the internal accessory tab eyelets for added security.

Designed, cut, and sewn by hand in my Lincolnshire workshop using traditional techniques.
Created from Britain’s best materials
Over the years I’ve forged friendships with traditional tanneries around Britain. I sourced this leather at Charles F Stead, in Leeds who I have worked with for many years. They produce some of the finest suedes in the world.
This leather is packed with character. What I love most about it is the rugged, waxed finish- it’s built to take on marks and scuffs, shaping itself to your journey every time you use it.
The washbag handle and base are cut from bridle leather, which as the name suggests, is traditionally used for horse tack. I purchased this bridle leather from J & E Sedgwick, who are renowned for their superbly strong and hard-wearing leather.
I’ve finished the Heritage washbag with solid brass hardware, which won’t rust. These finishings are produced by Abbey England, Britain’s last remaining traditional brass foundry.
Designed for lifetimes and legacy
With each and every Ashley Clarke England piece, heritage-style meets heavy duty. I design my leather goods to last a lifetime and to improve with age.
I select sturdy leathers that hold their own and favour hides that take on more character in time. The leather I handpicked for this wash bag strikes that ideal balance.
Growing up in the Lincolnshire countryside, flying hawks with my dad, has influenced my material choices and product designs. I prefer natural leathers that look better for a few scuffs and scratches, and solid brass details that are durable and rust-proof.
I encourage you to embrace the signs of everyday use that your wash bag will accumulate in time. I’ve designed this bag to tell your story for years to come and one day, I hope you’ll pass it down to the next generation of your family, who will treasure your well-loved travel companion.
Made in England
Each wash bag is made from start to finish in my workshop in Grantham, England. I design my patterns using an age-old method, drawn by hand with pencil and pattern card, and cut with a scalpel.
I physically mock up each new design in leather, there’s no use of CAD in this process, everything is done by hand.
My cutting knives are made bespoke for each product that I produce. Workshop visitors are often surprised that some of these knives look a bit like pastry cutters.
Every wash bag is sewn using my trusty sewing machines and finished with my own two hands, whether that’s hand dying an edging detail or constructing a zip fastening. This is how leather has been worked for centuries.
I make limited ranges of premium leather goods, using trustworthy, traditional techniques.
